Tracks and Suggested Topics
Educators are under great pressure to conform to a “one-size-fits-all” model of education, as policy makers are increasingly pushing towards uniformity in standards, curricula, assessments and more. Yet, we know that know that no two children are alike, and each student has different assets, challenges, interest and needs.
How, then, do we create classrooms and schools that are truly student-centered?
Experts, practitioners, and/or educational thought leaders who are interested in presenting should be able to:
>clarify how innovative and effective teaching strategies were implemented successfully
>explain how success was measured
>specify what steps were taken to engage educators, researchers, advocates, parents and/or students
>describe what student-centered beliefs drove their work, models were used, or outcomes were found
>engage participants a high level of participation and reflection
Preferred topics will fall within one or more of the following concurrent tracks:
>Brain-based learning
>STEM curricula
>Literacy Programs
>Out-of-school time
>Social and emotional learning
>Project-based learning
>Student-motivation and engagement
>Technology-based learning and instruction
>Student-assessment
>Building relationships
Presentation Formats
The Conference will feature a variety of session types:
> Keynote Presentations. Keynotes are 45-60 minutes and will feature a nationally recognized expert.
> Workshops. We are looking for workshops to be “hands-on,” and actively engaging.
> Mini-Lectures. These will be 20-minute talks or case-studies followed by 15 minutes of Q&A.
> Panels. Panels will include 3-5 experts and a facilitator and should encourage interaction on a single topic.
> Roundtables. Small groups will meet and discuss key topics around student-centered education.
