In Part 1 of the brainstorming session at the NISCE Launch event the focus was on the educators.
When asked to give brief examples of what makes them feel successful after a day’s involvement with students:
- Watching a student truly engage with a lesson
- Watching students achieve goals they set
- Watching a student demonstrate self awareness in a tough class project

- Being a mentor to a student or a colleague
- Developing a new curriculum piece
- Working collaboratively with colleagues to solve a problem
- Seeing positive student-to-student interactions
- Involved parents
When asked to what are some of the biggest frustrations or challenges that educators face in feeling successful at the end of any particular day, they noted:
- Lack of staff communication or collaboration
- Not feeling supported or heard by the administration
- Work load
- Time pressures
- The size of some classrooms
- Staffing issues
- Student behavioral issues
- Student absences
- Not knowing how to cope with certain situations
- Issues with parents
